What is a D.O.?
Both Doctors of Osteopathy (D.O.) and Medical Doctors (M.D.) are fully licensed physicians that perform surgery and prescribe medications. Is there a difference between these two kinds of doctors? Yes. And No.
Osteopathic medical schools emphasize training students to be primary care physicians and to practice a “whole person” approach to medicine. Instead of just treating specific symptoms or illnesses, Osteopathic physicians regard your body as an integrated whole, and focus on prevention of illnesses.
D.O.’s receive extra training in the musculoskeletal system and Dr. Rosenfield furthered this education by completing a Fellowship in Mechanical Rehabilitative Medicine. Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is incorporated in the training and practice of osteopathic medicine. With OMT, osteopathic physicians use their hands to diagnose injury and illness and to assist the body in the healing process through proper balance and alignment.
By combining all available medical resources with OMT, Dr. Rosenfield offers patients the most comprehensive care available in medicine today.
